Improving History Education

World History Encyclopedia is a non-profit company publishing the world's most-read history encyclopedia. Our mission is to engage people with cultural heritage and to improve history education worldwide. We make history engaging and exciting, delivering the highest-quality articles on ancient history, videos, interactive maps, and news to millions of people from across the globe.

As an Education Content Creator, you design lesson plans and corresponding worksheets, handouts, games, and other educational materials for Ancient History Encyclopedia’s Education Department, liaising with the editorial team. 

We need someone with a creative flair and a passion for history and pedagogy. You are comfortable dealing with people of varied backgrounds, customs, and manners. You are self-motivated and can work from home with little supervision. Ideally, you have one or more years of experience working in a teaching role.

This position is a volunteer role; you will not get paid for your work. If you can communicate well and you are able to devote at least three hours per week to this position, we’d like to hear from you.

  • Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines
  • Strong commitment to WHE’s mission and identity. Passion for history is a huge plus.

Responsibilities

  • Write lesson plans based on collections published on our website and according to the priority order given by the popularity ranking
  • Suggest collections you think would be well received by educators and teachers consulting our website
  • Prepare teaching resources to complement the lesson plans already designed including homework assignments and instructional handouts
  • Make good use of the variety of media we have on our website and the corresponding collection, completed by external resources, such as STEM activities
  • Create resources that are highly engaging and easy to use for both teachers and students
  • Participate to Education department meetings (about 30-45 min every 6 weeks) to share best practice, discuss the department to-do’s, etc.
